How to setup stream overlay in obs – 2021 Updated Guide

Are you looking to setup a stream overlay in OBS for your Twitch or Youtube gaming live stream? Well, I have just the thing for you!

This is a guide on how to set up a static and animated overlay in OBS Studio within a few steps.

If you follow along, it will take no time and look great in-game. You can even download my example files before we begin, so there are no issues during the tutorial.

So let’s get started with setting up this awesome streaming overlay in OBS Studio.

Why having stream overlay’s even needed?

Overlays are important because they help keep viewers engaged throughout your entire stream. They give them something to look at other than just a dull black screen while waiting for their turn in the game or watching someone else play instead of them!

It’s also nice to have that extra touch when promoting yourself as a content creator online since people love seeing things that stand out from the crowd and make them feel special about being part of what makes you unique as well.

Now you might be thinking, what is a scene?

A scene is a place where you will add and store all the contents in one particular need.

For example: If you have created an in-game stream overlay scene, then it will contain:

  1. Your camera source
  2. Gameplay screen
  3. Chatbox widget
  4. Ingame overlays
  5. Facecam or Webcam Overlay

And more things.

I hope this was easy to understand what is a scene in OBS Studio.

Now let’s add some elements to this scene.

Step 2: Adding elements to the scene

it’s time to add some elements to this scene. Suppose you want to add your logo or a static image. To add that, click the plus icon under the Sources section.
